The Heritage Centre is a converted barn which is situated in
the grounds of the New Fountain Inn. The building is known as
'Lockyer's Linhay', 'linhay' being a local word for a hay barn,
and was sold to the Society by the the late Mr. Paul Mallett and
his wife Gill of the New Fountain Inn.
Work on the conversion began in 2002 and the Centre was opened
in May 2003, almost a year earlier than planned. Having achieved
that it was decided not to rest on our laurels but to press on
with the long term plan of adding an extension to the Centre.
Fund raising continued apace and together with generous donations
we have now been able to build the extension and hope to open
it in 2005, albeit with limited display facilities initially.

Heritage Centre Project
The new wing was opened, and named, by Mr. and Mrs. E. V. M. Whiteway
on Monday 2nd May, 2005 . The wing is named The Whiteway Wing
and the ground floor gallery The White-way Gallery. After the
official opening the completed Centre was opened to all members.
The Society has a dedicated car park, and approach to the rear
and north side of the centre. It includes a concreted parking
area for disabled drivers and a concrete path to allow them and
elderly persons to walk from the car park to the front of the
Centre. When visiting the Centre by car please make use of this
car park.
Stewarding of the Heritage
Centre
The Committee would like to thank all members who kindly helped
out with stewarding last year.
The Heritage Centre will reopen on Saturday 30th March. It will
be open every Saturday from 10.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and every
Wednesday from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. until Saturday 28th September.
On Saturdays, we desperately require two stewards for each of
the two sessions from 9.45 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. and from 12.45 p.m.
to 3.30 p.m. In recent years we have been grateful to Mr. I. Hardcastle
and Mr. D. Rastall who did the stewarding on Wednesday afternoons.
If you could help on Wednesdays it would give these two members
a welcome break from time to time. If you can manage to fill some
of the dates mentioned above, could you either phone the Centre
during opening hours (tel: 01404 822499) or Mr A. Smith on 010404
822977. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
