                                    Become a Volunteer

Do you love history? Do you have time to spare? If the answer to those questions is yes, then please consider joining the Heritage Centre as a volunteer. We always need more help. Whatever your background, whatever your skills, whether you can spare half a day per week, or a day once a month, we can always find a role for you, and it is a great way to make new friends.

Volunteering can build confidence, help you to learn new skills, and give you a sense of purpose. For some of our volunteers there will be opportunities to go on courses to learn new skills.

We hold an annual evening social for our volunteers in the Spring each year. In addition between 1st October-31st March our volunteers meet for tea/coffee at 11am on the first Monday of the month (the second Monday in January if the first Monday is New Year’s Day) at the New Fountain Inn. This provides an opportunity for volunteers to get to know each other. Prospective volunteers are welcome to come along to talk to our existing volunteers and find out what volunteering entails.

At the moment we particularly need help with:

•    Planning and organising fundraising events
•    Stewarding when the Heritage Centre is open to the public
•    Pest control – an interest in insects would be an advantage!
•    Cleaning
•    Researching and delivering hour long illustrated talks on historical subjects
•    Carpentry and electrical work
•    Running the Heritage Centre shop

We welcome volunteers of any age, race, gender, sexual orientation, background and faith.

If you would like to join us as a volunteer then please Contact us and we will get back to you.

"I volunteered at Whimple Heritage Centre  for my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's award in 2015/16. At the time they were preparing a display to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, and I helped by researching the lives of some of the Whimple men who fought in the War"

Ed, aged 16

Please contact us if you would like a short work experience placement or to volunteer as part of your Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme
